Bullhead and BCSD #15 celebrate completion of first phase of shared park improvements

BULLHEAD CITY — The City of Bullhead City and Bullhead City School District #15 hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, January 9, at Bullhead City Middle School, 1062 Hancock Road, to celebrate the completion of the newly improved shared park and athletic amenities.

The ribbon cutting marks the completion of the first phase of improvements to a newly established shared-use football field and playground located along the eastern edge of the Bullhead City Middle School campus. The football field has been fully rehabilitated and is now ready for play following extensive work that included soil grading, installation of a new irrigation system, and hydroseeding. The playground and accompanying shade structure are entirely new additions.

Formerly owned and operated solely by Bullhead City School District #15, the amenities are now shared between the School District and the City. Under the agreement, the space will function part-time as a playground and athletic field for school use and part-time as a public park available to the community.

“This agreement has been a great win-win for the community,” said City Manager Toby Cotter.

The improvements are part of a broader facilities agreement between the City and the School District. As part of that agreement, the School District transferred ownership of the Optimum Community Center, formerly Mountain View School, to the City. In exchange, the City committed to making a series of capital improvements for the School District, including slurry sealing parking lots throughout the district and completing major upgrades to school athletic facilities.

This ribbon cutting celebrates the completion of the first phase of improvements to the shared park and school amenities. Future phases are planned and will include rebuilding the baseball field and southern grass area, rehabilitating the school parking lot, and additional enhancements to further support both school and community use.
