Beck takes plea in strangulation case

KINGMAN – A plea agreement has been entered for a Golden Valley man who allegedly shoved a Mohave County Sheriff’s Deputy who responded to a domestic disturbance incident on Oct. 11. Samuel Beck, 32, plead guilty to aggravated assault during a Dec. 30 hearing before Judge Doug Camacho in Kingman.

Aggravated assault on a peace officer, prohibited possession of a firearm and resisting arrest charges are dismissed in the deal. Deputy county attorney Bob Moon said Beck injured his girlfriend during a dispute at 7212 Zuni Drive.

“Besides head butting her … he also strangled her with both hands around her throat, resulting in difficulty with her breathing,” Moon said.

The sheriff’s office reported that Beck struggled with deputies attempting to place him in custody on the porch outside the residence. Beck reportedly retreated within the home before allowing two children to exit the dwelling.

The sheriff’s office said Beck fled on foot but was arrested in a wash a short distance from the home.

Beck is eligible for probation but also faces up to 3.75 year in prison under terms of the deal. Sentencing is scheduled Jan. 31.
