Dear Editor, Maui has long been the go-to destination for millions to experience paradise. Life has changed. Maui is now the site of the deadliest fire in modern U.S. history. At this writing, over 90 persons are been reported dead. The lovely town of Lahaina is nothing but charred remains and embers. GRAND CANYON, Ariz.—A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 4.7 million visitors to Grand Canyon National Park in 2022 spent an estimated $759 million in gateway regions near the park. The theme this year is “Teens for Jeans.” They are collecting slightly used and new jeans of all sizes during the week of August 21 to August 28. The jeans will be distributed to local schools, local shelters, and local agencies that work with people in need of assistance.
