Western heritage brought to life with weekend rodeo events

The Kingsmen have brought rodeo to Kingman every September for decades, but this year they brought more! This year, the Kingsmen’s Andy Devine Pro Rodeo took place last weekend, June 1 & 2. The festivities kicked off with a Taco-Tuesday party at the Tack Shed Saloon on Tuesday, May 28. Barbara Jenkins’s lucky square #77 was the steers choice at Thursday night’s Cow Plop, held in the Boot Barn parking lot. The 100 Club Dinner hosted on Friday kicked off with a buffet from local caterers such as The Garlic Clove and Kingman Chophouse, an open bar, and live-music from…

Board of Supervisors meetings to rotate cities

Mohave County is taking government to the people in Lake Havasu and Bullhead City. Member Ron Gould’s proposal to hold regular board meetings beyond the county seat community of Kingman was approved during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Gould said there is a disconnect and that many of his constituents are not cognizant of county government, though they pay county taxes just like the Kingman area residents who have the option of attending board meetings. “It’s almost as if the county government only applies to Kingman,” Gould said. “I think this will do a little bit to make those folks…

Safety tips for monsoon season

Monsoon season officially begins June 15th and continues through September. Storms generally peak between mid-July and mid-August bringing high winds, high temperatures and high moisture resulting in potentially dangerous weather conditions. Monsoon storms can also bring high winds that can toss debris around, down trees, damage power lines, and destroy structures like roofs and shelters. The Bullhead City Fire Department would like to remind citizens to prepare and have a plan in place before the monsoon storms arrive. Knowing what to do when in an emergency is…

A Kingman woman who allegedly threatened neighbors with a broken glass jar and a knife was taken into custody after scuffling with deputies late Sunday morning. Mohave County Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said deputies responded at 11:20 a.m. to the disturbance in the 3100 block of Northfield Avenue. Mortensen said the reporting party indicated that a woman later identified as Amanda Lynnette Barr threatened to kill multiple neighbors with a knife. “Deputies observed Barr, known to them from prior incidents, sitting on the porch of a nearby residence and Barr immediately began shouting obscenities at deputies,” Mortensen said. “Barr…

According to updates on her GoFundMe account “Natalie Dawn’s Second Fight” she has stopped responding to treatments and planned to come home to Kingman. KPD begins recruitment campaign

It’s still cool to be a cop. That’s one of the messages of a new recruitment campaign the city of Kingman is rolling out hoping to find the best available people to serve its police department. Like heads of other area law enforcement agencies have been saying for years, Police Chief Bob Devries said low pay and benefit package issues make it difficult for Kingman to hire and retain police officers. Devries and City Manager Ron Foggin explained during a Tuesday news conference that another problem is that fewer young people are interested in law enforcement careers today, as compared…
