Volunteers can help spotlight endangered black-footed ferrets

Survey results shine light on recovery effort The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking volunteers to assist with fall spotlighting efforts to help document the population of endangered black-footed ferrets in Aubrey Valley and on the Double O Ranch, both near Seligman.  As part of the recovery effort, the department has scheduled two five-night spotlighting events — Sept. 19-23 and Oct. 17-21. The spotlighting method involves using high-powered lights to locate and identify black-footed ferrets. Their eyeshine is reflected by the spotlight and helps surveyors with identifying and locating these elusive, nocturnal carnivores. Volunteers must have the ability to stay attentive from…

Census workers are visiting area neighborhoods to canvass addresses in the community, and will continue through October. Dad given time served for slapping disabled daughter

KINGMAN – An elderly Fort Mohave man who harmed his disabled daughter was released from jail Thursday following his sentencing hearing in Mohave County Superior Court. Dean Peters, 72, was sentenced to 72 days in jail and credited with having spent that many days in custody. Peters was arrested on June 25 after an incident in the 5900 block of S. Gazelle Dr. Deputy Mohave County Attorney Amanda Claerhout said at last month’s change of plea hearing that Peters slapped his daughter when the 33-year-old who suffers from Autism and Downs Syndrome refused to exit a vehicle. “I am sorry,”…

Vice Mayor pleads ‘not guilty’ in theft case

KINGMAN – Bullhead City Vice Mayor Annette Wegmann pleaded not guilty to a felony theft charge during her arraignment in Mohave County Superior Court in Kingman Thursday. Wegmann was indicted in a “he said-she said” dispute regarding what happened to the contents of a condo during her previous employment with a property management firm. Wegmann issued a statement Tuesday professing her innocence, and expressing eagerness to clear her name as the case unfolds.
