Bats Found in Grand Canyon National Park Test Positive for Rabies

GRAND CANYON  – Grand Canyon National Park has received confirmation that two bats collected along the Colorado River in the park last month tested positive for rabies. The rabies-positive bats, both Canyon Bats, were deceased at the time of collection and did not come in contact with any visitors or staff. Rabies is preventable if medical treatment called post-exposure prophylaxis, or PEP, is given following an exposure to a rabid animal. “Monster” gets maximum sentence

KINGMAN – A local judge imposed the maximum punishment possible during a Thursday sentencing hearing for a man convicted of fondling a young girl in a Bullhead City motel room 13 years ago. Judge Billy Sipe ordered a 28-year prison term for Jay Beatte, 44. A trial jury last month found Beatte guilty of one count of child molestation for groping his girlfriend’s daughter who was 10 or 11 years old when they lived together at the motel in 2006. Men and women who want to become firefighters should fill out an application for the Spring 2020 MCC Fire Academy. Mohave Community College’s Fire Science program partners with local fire stations to offer the best education and training in the region. Completion of the fire academy is a requirement for anyone who wants to become a firefighter. The MCC Fire Academy is a 272-hour course providing recruits training in basic firefighting concepts including fire behavior, rescue procedures, command and control, fire suppression, hazardous materials, and firefighter safety. On August 8, the most recent class of Hoover Dam’s Power System Electrician Apprentices — Corinna Wittig, Chris Hanson, Dustin Shigematsu, Richard Stewart and Paul Valdez — graduated from their four-year program, becoming journeyman electricians. The graduates have earned certificates from the Department of Labor, Nevada State Apprenticeship Council and the Lower Colorado Dams Office, along with this highly anticipated graduation ceremony.
