Dear Editor, The Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council has helped nearly 3,000 veterans since its inception. We continue to aid military veterans and their immediate families. Individual assistance decisions are made based on circumstances. We may provide direct assistance or refer them to our community partners. Decisions are based on a “hand-up” process. We continue to sponsor Veterans Resources Fairs in Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, and Kingman. Recently we have been asked to assist with two LaPaz County Stand Downs, along with the Arizona Department of Veterans Services and the Arizona Stand Down Alliance who provide the funding. We will…

Four-year-old fatal waterway case coming to a close with plea deal

KINGMAN – A California man has entered a plea agreement in Kingman that will resolve a four-year-old waterway fatality case. Kevin Morgon, 47, pleaded guilty Sept. 24 to negligent homicide and aggravated assault. Authorities said a boat operated by Morgon struck a personal watercraft on the Colorado River at Davis Camp in Bullhead City in April 2016. A 13-year-old girl on the watercraft, Guadalupe Rodriguez, San Bernardino, was fatally injured. The teen’s younger sister and their mother were seriously injured in the crash. Man who pointed weapon at local event enters plea

KINGMAN – An alleged weapon pointing incident during a June 2 Black Lives Matter event in downtown Kingman was an accidental fluke incident of poor timing, according to Legal Defender Ron Gilleo. He spoke on behalf of his client Robert Fernandes, who entered a plea agreement Sept. 17 that could send him to the Arizona Department of Corrections. Havasu woman cited for 48 counts of animal mistreatment

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A woman who hoarded dozens of cats are her home in Lake Havasu City was cited for 48 counts of cruel mistreatment of animals late last month. A police report indicated that 38 cats were removed from the garage of 61-year-old Patricia Bellamy’s residence in the 2200 block of Fremont Drive. Fifteen more cats were located in a bedroom inside the home. Police said filthy and unsanitary living conditions were discovered throughout the residence and that the animals were not provided sufficient food or water.
