BHC property sold to Bullhead company

BULLHEAD CITY – Just under 270-acres of public land in the heart of Bullhead City was sold at auction on Thursday, Dec. 17. Bidding for the Arizona State Land Department sale took place near the steps of the Mohave County Courthouse in Kingman. Bullhead City based CSQH95LLP and local developer Elio Khalife, owner of First American Investment, were the only participants in the auction where the appraised value of $1.52 million was the minimum bid. BULLHEAD CITY – The Colorado River Union High School District (CRUHSD) governing board is accepting applications to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of board member Pat Young, who stepped down in September.  He was first elected in November 2018 and took office in January 2019. A new board member will fill an unexpired term, which runs through December 31, 2022.  Young’s resignation came too late to be placed on last month’s ballot. Local charged in five-person fatal

A Kingman man faces prosecution for the traffic accident that killed 5 bicyclists in southern Nevada last Thursday. The Mohave County Sheriff’s office says 45-year-old Jordan Barson was arrested in the Kingman area about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Associated Press reports the Clark County District Attorney’s office has charged Barson with a dozen felony offenses, alleging he was high on methamphetamine when the box truck he was driving struck a group of bicyclists on Highway 95, between Searchlight and Boulder City. BHC robber sentenced to four years

BULLHEAD CITY – A 4-year prison term was imposed Monday for a cellphone store holdup in Bullhead City. The punishment for 29-year-old Alonso Avalos was prescribed in a plea agreement convicting him of armed robbery. No one was injured when Avalos used a handgun while robbing the Cricket Wireless store on highway 95 in Nov. 2019. Avalos was identified as a suspect after a citizen recognized a surveillance system image in a local newspaper. Kormes takes meth plea

MOHAVE VALLEY – An accused drug dealer from Mohave Valley faces possible prison time after entering a plea agreement in Kingman Monday. Maria Kormes, 35, is being convicted of a reduced charge of attempted possession of dangerous drugs for sale. Authorities said 25 grams of methamphetamine was found in Kormes’ purse following a Feb. 2 2019 traffic stop in the 2100 block of Mustang in Mohave Valley. Kormes is eligible for probation but could get up to 8.75 years in prison when sentenced Feb. 12 by Superior Court judge Derek Carlisle. KINGMAN – KRMC’s WL Nugent Cancer Center has enrolled its first patients in clinical trials for cancer treatment. The WL Nugent Cancer Center is the only cancer treatment center in Mohave County to offer clinical trials.
