KINGMAN – All charges against two Canadian citizens arrested in a drug bust on Interstate 40 west of Kingman have been dismissed following disclosure of what defense attorneys purport to be law enforcement disclosure failures. Deputy Mohave County Attorney Jonathan Robinson dismissed the drug trafficking related charges at the start of an Oct. 15 hearing at the Mohave County Courthouse. MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County voters are returning early ballots for the Nov. 3 general election quickly, and in large numbers. Recorder Kristi Blair said about 30,000 early ballots had been returned to the county by Friday, just nine days after about 82,000 were mailed to county residents who requested them. Dear Editor, Like a magic trick, Arizona’s Proposition 207 is not what it seems. Prop 207 is called “The Smart and Safe Arizona Act” but neither adjective reflects the reality it proposes. Take it from us, Coloradans who saw the same smoke-and-mirrors trick eight years ago. After the magic show ended in 2012 and Colorado voters agreed to regulate marijuana similar to alcohol, we were left with: increasing marijuana-impaired traffic fatalities, rising frequency of marijuana use by youth, exponentially higher potency with radically new marijuana products, almost double the national rate for daily marijuana use among young adults. Suspected drowning under investigation

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A suspected drowning is under investigation at Lake Havasu. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office was notified at 8:20 a.m. Thursday that a body had been spotted in the water. “The Division of Boating Safety responded to the area of Thompson Bay near the Skate Park and located a deceased male subject under water, approximately 100 feet off of the shore,” said sheriff’s spokeswoman Anita Mortensen. “Members of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue and Recovery Team secured the scene, and recovered the body from the water.” Mortensen said no suspicious circumstances were evident.
