The two largest school district in and around Bullhead City are applying for competitive 21st Century Community Learning Center grants, administered by the Arizona Department of Education.  The Bullhead City Elementary School District grant application is for Bullhead City Middle School, Desert Valley Elementary School, Diamondback Elementary School, Fox Creek Junior High and Sunrise Elementary School. Swanson Avenue improvement project in downtown Lake Havasu City is underway

Motorists in Lake Havasu City who use Swanson Avenue east of Smoketree Avenue and west of Acoma Boulevard should expect construction delays weekdays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning this week and continuing through late summer while an improvement project is underway. The city is improving Swanson Avenue downtown. The Arizona Department of Transportation is administering the project. Human remains discovered in remote area

An archeologist conducting work in a remote area located human remains outside the western Arizona community of Topock Wednesday. Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 10:50 a.m. to a location near Polaris Road. Sheriff’s spokesman Anita Mortensen said the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office collected the bone fragments for forensic analysis and possible DNA testing. “Detectives canvassed the area to search for possible evidence,” she said.  No further information is initially available and investigation is ongoing.

Wilkinson charged after attempted escape

A person of interest in two recent bank robberies in Bullhead City reportedly attempted to escape and scuffled with a detention officer in Kingman late Monday afternoon. Stephen Ray Wilkinson, 39, Golden Valley, was picked up Saturday on an arrest warrant for an alleged probation violation. Wilkinson is the focus of ongoing investigation of a March 26 robbery of National Bank of Arizona on Highway 95 and an April 12 holdup at Mission Bank on Palma Way. No obstructions for Fun Run

Crews hope to substantially complete Beale Street construction by Friday, May 3. However, no matter what stage construction is at , crews will cleanup and open Beale St. completely, so there will be no obstructions to parking or traffic Friday and throughout the “Fun Run” weekend. Sixth St. will also be completely open with no obstructions. Crews will resume construction Monday, May 6 and work to finish the project next week.
