The Kingman Community Arbor Day Celebration and Tree-Planting will take place Saturday, April 27, at 10:00 a.m. in Firefighters’ Park (2201 Detroit Ave.) Cerbat Garden club will be presenting awards and prizes to the 27 student poster contest winners, the Mayor will be reading the Arbor Day Proclamation, and Clean City Commission has purchased 6 pecan trees which will be planted in the park under the direction of the Kingman Area Master Gardeners. Saturday, April 13, All Starz Academy hosted Starkydz “Wish Upon A Star” Pageant at White Cliffs Middle School. The pageant is an all-natural beauty pageant for both boys and girls, from infants through age 18. “They compete in formal wear, Disney wear, spokesmodel (they have a speech category), and talents. It’s a good way to encourage poise, presentation and to really promote confidence. Saturday, April 13, Kingman and Lee Williams High Schools hosted their Annual Route 66 Invitational Track meet held at Kingman High School on Bank Street in Kingman. The day was filled with plenty of sunshine, wind and track and field events. The meet started with the 4×800-meter relay followed by 300-meter hurdles for both boys and girls while field events, long jump, triple jump, and shot and disc ran simultaneously with the running events. “We have 10 teams today. Saturday, April 13, Kingman’s very own Mohave Community Orchestra presented its Spring Festival Concert at Kingman High School. Conductor Art Swanson led the ensemble with an opening of “Procession of the Nobles from Mlada,” and ended the evening with “A Whole Lot of Symphony Themes.” The 35-member orchestra has been in existence for about 13 years and is made up of primarily amateur musicians. “We allow all qualified students in the orchestra. We have one that joined us when she was about nine years old. The great thing about the students we do have, they play really well,” says Swanson….

No one was hurt during an Easter Sunday fire in north Kingman. Personnel from the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD) responded at 4:38 p.m. to the incident in the 3100 block of East Packard Avenue.    “Firefighters arrived to find a single wide mobile residence with an attached Arizona room with smoke and fire venting from the roof,” a news release stated. “There were two occupants at the time and everyone escaped without injury.”    Battalion Chief Don Dallman said it took crews about 20 minutes to knock down the fire before extensive mop up operations were conducted.
