Kingman Water Festival connects local students with water education

bottled water

KINGMAN, Ariz. – The City of Kingman is partnering with Arizona Project WET and local sponsors to bring hands-on water education to more than 440 fourth grade students during the Kingman Water Festival on Thursday, October 15. The event will take place from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Centennial Park located at 3333 Harrison Street.

Students from Kingman Unified School District and Kingman Academy will participate in interactive activities exploring groundwater, the water cycle, watersheds and water sustainability. Each lesson will help students better understand how water moves through the environment, where their water comes from and how their everyday choices can help protect this important resource.

The festival builds on classroom instruction, giving students an opportunity to put their learning into practice in an outdoor setting. By bringing together schools, community volunteers and local partners, the event supports science education while encouraging water stewardship among Kingman’s next generation.

Support for the festival comes from the City of Kingman, Cerbat Mountain Farms, Nucor, Kingman Rotary Club and the Kingman Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Arizona Project WET, a University of Arizona Environmental Science Extension program.  Additional volunteers are still needed to help guide students through festival activities. Volunteers will receive lesson materials and guidance to support their participation. The volunteer schedule is 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 15, and snacks and lunch will be provided.
