MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave College men’s soccer team opened the week with a 1–0 loss to Utah State Eastern on Thursday, Aug. 20, at Firebird Field. Chase Radford made 10 saves, while Lazzar Ramos led the Bighorns with six shots.
Mohave responded Saturday, Aug. 22, with a 5–0 victory over Truckee Meadows Community College. Ramos opened the scoring in the 12th minute off an assist from Oscar Salgado, then added goals in the 48th and 56th minutes. Alan Salgado scored in the 49th minute off an assist from Geovanni Cardenas, and Pablo Pulido added the final goal in the 78th minute.
The Bighorns outshot Truckee Meadows 22–8 and held a 5–1 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeepers Chase Radford and Owen Williams kept Truckee Meadows off the scoreboard.
The Bighorns enter the season ranked No. 4 in the nation in the NJCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll, leading the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC). The Bighorns also enter the season ranked No. 2 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division I Men’s Preseason Poll.
“We had a rough start to our season on Thursday, but the guys focused on the next opportunity to compete and eliminated the negativity and external noise, and it showed in the next performance,” said Camilo Valencia, Men’s Head Coach. “Now we have an exciting road trip to Iowa to challenge ourselves against two of the best teams in the country and show the progress we’ve had so far.”
