The word “Son” in the term ‘Son of God’ does not mean what most people think it means.
In the Bible, the word ‘son’ has several definitions.
One of these definitions refers to biological descent, or “the descent from parent to child.” In today’s culture, this is the definition most people think of.
In the Jewish culture however, the word ‘son’ is often used to mean
‘a human being’. The word “son” in the Bible is a ‘Semitic idiom’ meaning “human being” or “mortal.”
For example, in Ezekiel 2:1 the word ‘Son’, in the term ‘Son of Adam’ is referring to being ‘a human made of flesh’, and is not referring
to a parent-child relationship.
In the term the ‘Son of David’, the word ‘Son’ is referring to the ‘flesh’ of David according to geneology, and is not referring to a parent-child relationship.
In the term ‘Son of Man’, the word ‘Son’ is used to denote a human being and is referencing Yahshua’s humanity; it is not referring to a parent-child relationship.
In the term ‘Son of God’, the word ‘Son’ is referring to the humanity of God. It is used to denote The Almighty Father came to us as a human being made of flesh; it is not referring to a ‘parent-child’ relationship.
The word “Son” in the term “Son of God”, does not imply, suggest or convey the meaning that Yahshua is the offspring of God as in a parent-child relationship.
The word ’Son’, in the term ‘Son of God’, is describing Yahweh, The Almighty Father coming to us as a human being born of flesh. The Almighty Father ‘in human flesh’ was ‘called’ the ‘Son’ of God.
In like manner, the word “Son” as used by the Apostle John in John 3:16, is a ‘Semitic idiom’ and is not referring to a child, or to a parent and child relationship.
When the the Apostle John said in John 3:16, “For Yahweh so loved the world that He gave His only unique Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”, John was using the word “Son” in the form of a ‘Semitic idiom’ used in the Jewish culture to denote “a human”. The Apostle John is describing Yahweh coming to us as a man of flesh, a human being. John is not talking about Yahweh’s child.
John was describing Yahweh coming to us as a human being made of flesh; and that Yahweh Himself gave His only unique human body made of flesh on our behalf. John was not using the word “Son” to denote Yahweh’s child, or a parent and child relationship.
Understanding the meaning of the word “Son” when used as a ‘Semitic idiom’ is crucial for grasping the true meaning of John’s words.
