Bogert gets 10 years for abusing his two-month-old baby

KINGMAN – It’s a decade in the Arizona Department of Corrections for a young Kingman father charged in the abuse of his two-month old son last summer. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen ordered the 10-year prison term for German Bogert, 21, during a Jan. 12 sentencing hearing at the Law and Justice Center in Kingman.

Officers were summoned to Kingman Regional Medical Center last Aug. where hospital staff were treating the infant.

“Investigators learned that the child had significant bruising to the face and body and it was later determined that the child had a brain bleed and was flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for advanced care,” Deputy Police Chief Joel Freed said. He said that Bogert admitted shaking and striking the baby over several days.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Amanda Claerhout also cited those admissions at the sentencing hearing. German pleaded guilty to a charge reduced to attempted child abuse by domestic violence on December 12.

An advocate for the child told the court that the victim, now  seven months old, has delayed development of motor skills and suffers the brain bleed, which she said could cause long term headache-related issues.
