DOLAN SPRINGS — The man arrested for shooting up the VFW in Dolan Springs last month reportedly told law enforcement that an alien invasion would occur over Thanksgiving. Judge Billy Sipe expressed concern during a Monday hearing that comments made by Kevin Barnes, 64, revealed some mental instability.
Sipe rejected a defense motion to amend release conditions and affirmed the $100,000 bond holding Barnes in the Adult Detention Facility in Kingman.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s office said Barnes yelled at a Good Samaritan who pulled over to help him with his flat tire in the vicinity of 9th street and Havasu Road. Barnes reportedly fired a round in the man’s direction as he pulled away from the flat tire scene.
The Good Samaritan subsequently followed Barnes to the VFW and ventured inside to warn any patrons possibly in harm’s way. Barnes reportedly assume a sniper’s stance or crouch and fired upon the building, injuring no one.
“What happened here is very frightening for someone to take sniper position and open fire at the VFW,” Judge Sipe said.
Barnes is charged with two counts of attempted murder.
