ARPA funds available locally for robotics teams

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Kingman Area Robotics application for the 2025 season is open and ends on October 30. Mohave County Community Services department received ARPA funds which are being used toward the Robotics Initiative to provide financial support for local high school students, robotics teams, and clubs. This program is designed to inspire and empower local high school students through hands-on experience in robotics, engineering, and technology. Funding aims to strengthen STEM learning opportunities and prepare youth for future careers in science and technology-driven industries.

Informational meeting for application assistance

To assist with the application process, the Community Services department is holding an informational Q&A session on October 23, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Mohave County Administration Building in the Saguaro conference room, 700 W. Beale St., Kingman.

Application guidelines

Each application must be submitted by a team coach, school representative, or designated adult on behalf of the student club, group, or team. Individual students may not apply on their own without a representative/legal guardian.

Applicants are to provide a clear description of their project, along with an itemized breakdown of the funding request, a description of the target population projects will serve, along with an estimate of the number of youths that will benefit from the funds awarded.

Application deadline is October 30. Submissions should be emailed to CSDAdministration@mohave.gov

Applicants will be selected on November 6. Applicants are required to provide an itemized breakdown of their requested funds. Allowable costs include robot materials and the supplies necessary for building and programming, competition registration fees, and travel expenses directly related to attending robotics competitions. Funds may not be used for non-project related costs such as food, personal items, or equipment unrelated to robotics activities. There is a $500 per student cap, and a $10,000 per team cap.

In recent years, Mohave County has seen strong growth in local STEM engagement through programs such as the FIRST Robotics competitions, led in part by the Kingman Robotics Team 60. This new round of funding will help further expand those opportunities, inspiring more students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math.
