Kingman Center for the Arts holds 7th annual 6×6 art sale

KINGMAN — A very unique art gallery fundraiser was recently held at the Kingman Center for the Arts at Fourth and Beale, downtown Kingman.  Every picture on display for sale is only 6 by 6 inches.  The 7th annual event continues through November 8th.

This years’ edition of the 6 by 6 gallery fundraiser is different than in past years.  Gallery Director for the Kingman Center for the Arts, Inessa Burnell, explains the uniqueness of the event.

“We sell the blank canvases for five dollars to artists in the community.  They buy them from us, create artwork, and then they donate them back and, in the past, we would sell them for twenty-five dollars.  But this year, we’re doing something special where everything that you see is going to silent auction for a minimum bid of that same $25.”

A steady stream of viewers and bidders came through the gallery as part of the October “First Friday” celebration to take in the nearly 200 pieces of art work.  The items not sold will be available for public viewing and sale for the minimum twenty-five dollars as the exhibit will be displayed through November eighth.

KCA instructor and exhibitor Rob Bagge commented on the overall quality of the art work submitted for this exhibit.

“This year is stellar, the artwork that has been produced and given for a fundraiser is fascinating to me.  And it’s not just retired people, it’s people of all ages from kids on up.  They are producing quality artwork and it’s amazing.”

The majority of the work has been submitted by Mohave County artists, predominately from Kingman, but there is some work placed by an international creator with a local connection.  The grandson of a Kingmanite is youthful Michael Ramsey, already no stranger to artistic competition.

“I’ve been an artist for about two years, but professionally I’ve been an artist for three or four months.  This is one of less than 10 shows professional that I’ve entered into.  I’ve will be featured in Arco, Madrid’s Museum of Contemporary art in Barcelona coming up in March of 2026.”

Gallery staff reports more than 35 of the 6 by 6 art sold during the silent auction.  That leaves well over 140 submissions on display and available for sale through the first part of November.  Gallery hours are 11 am to 4, Tuesday through Thursday with Friday and Saturday closing extended to 6 pm.
