Dr. Jerald D. Wienke (Jerry)

Dr. Jerald D. Wienke (Jerry) of Kingman, AZ, passed away on September 23, 2025. He was 83.  Jerry was born in Mattoon, IL, on January 2, 1942.  He moved to Kingman with his parents, Kenneth and Alice Wienke, and his brother, James (Jim) Wienke, in 1946

Jerry graduated from Mohave County Union High School in 1959.  He went on to the University of Arizona, where he attended for 3 years until he was accepted into dental school at the University of Southern California.  He graduated with a Doctor of Dental Science degree in 1966.  Jerry practiced in Parker and Lake Havasu City for a short time after college and then in 1968 built his dental practice in his hometown, where he practiced for 52 years.

Jerry was  always very involved with and cared so much about the Kingman community.  He was a 58-year member of Kingman Elks Lodge No. 468, Kingman Rotary Club, Kingman Chamber of Commerce, and Kingman Jaycees, where he was a founding member and later elected president.  He was also founding director and treasurer of the Kingman Youth Football League, and he was a coach for Kingman Little League.  He was a founding chairman of the Kingman Alliance Against Drugs.

Jerry was Kingman’s first elected mayor in 1986.  He went on to be a city council member for 4 more years.  He was Grand Marshall for the Andy Devine Days Parade in 2002, and a Lifetime Achiever Andy Award recipient in 2007.  He was on the board for the Mohave Museum of History and Arts, serving as President from 2005-2008.  He served on the Historical Preservation Commission, the Municipal Utility Commission, and the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Jerry’s family would like to thank the Lingenfelter Center for the kind and compassionate care they gave Jerry or “Doc” as they affectionately referred to him.  For those who have had family or friends stricken with dementia, you are well aware of the struggles Jerry and his family have been through these last few years.  Let us remember his kind-hearted, carefree, humorous outlook on life and the remarkable man he was. Jerry never met a stranger and had many lifelong friends, most of whom called him “Wink”.  He loved hunting, fishing, and golf, and was on the course every chance he could get.  Jerry had a way of telling the best stories, and lots of them, and he had the most contagious laugh.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Alice Wienke, and his brother, Dr. James (Jim) Wienke.  He is survived by his sister, Jane (Wienke) Coleman of Kingman, and her daughters, Karen (Todd) Foster of Kingman, and Christi (Phil) Belle of Denver, CO, and many more nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Please join us for a celebration of life at Kingman Elks Lodge on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM. Jerry would want everyone to come and have a beer with him and tell some stories.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to Kingman Elks Lodge No. 468 at 900 Gates Ave, Kingman, AZ 86401, or the Mohave Museum of History and Arts at 400 W Beale St, Kingman, AZ 86401.

Sutton Memorial Funeral Home handled his arrangements.

  1. What a whirlwind life Jerry had! From dentistry in Parker to mayoral duties in Kingman, he seemed to have been everywhere, doing everything. Its almost funny how he had time for everything – Elks, Rotary, Jaycees, football, Little League, you name it! And the mayor gig? Pfft, that was just a hobby. Still, gotta admire the guys energy – 52 years in a dental practice, grand marshall, lifetime achiever… plus he never met a stranger. The Wink moniker says it all. Can you imagine him trying to keep up with todays tech? Jerry, how do I like this newfangled smart phone? Hed probably just笑 out loud and tell the best story ever. R.I.P., Doc. Hope youre hitting the golf course in heaven – no doubt with a crowd around you.football.bros
