Governor Hobbs appoints Camacho to serve as first judge in Mohave County Superior Court

SAMSUNG CSC

MOHAVE COUNTY — Governor Katie Hobbs has announced the appointment of Douglas R. Camacho to serve as the first Judge of the newly established Mohave County Superior Court Division 8. Camacho has served the last decade as a Mohave County Court Commissioner and the previous ten years as a prosecutor in the County Attorney’s Office.

“Judge Camacho is well suited to take on this new role,” the Governor said, in a news release. “He has shown tremendous dedication to his community both inside and outside of the court room, and I am confident he will continue his excellent record of public service.”

it is unclear when Camacho will transition from his current bench spot to his new appointment. However, Presiding Judge Steve Moss indicated last month that he hoped the new Division 8 would begin operating sometime in October.

Camacho’s Commissioner seat becomes vacant before two new Commissioner positions are ready to fill. Court administration has conducted an application and interview process to attempt to develop a “register” of qualified parties for possible appointment to the Commissioner slots.

The Board of Supervisors early this year approved petitioning the Governor to establish Division 8, and Hobbs approved the request on March 6.
