Arizona Community Foundation grants $24,570 to Catholic Charities

BULLHEAD CITY – The Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) of Flagstaff is responding to funding shortages and supporting the needs of the community by providing a $24,570 grant to Catholic Charities Community Services.

Catholic Charities will use the grant for housing assistance programs across Northern Arizona for clients experiencing serious mental illness. In addition, the nonprofit has the only emergency shelter serving individuals and families in the Bullhead City area. The grant will also support food insecurity relief in Bullhead City.

“At the Arizona Community Foundation, our mission is to honor donor intent as we assess the needs of the community and do what we can to solve the issues our most vulnerable populations face,” says Tammy Howell, Regional Director of ACF of Flagstaff. “We are grateful for our partners like Catholic Charities Community Services and to our community members who help bring concerns to the forefront and work with us to find solutions.”

There is a stronger need for support, charitability and funding in rural areas like Flagstaff, Bullhead City and many other communities in Northern Arizona. Homelessness and food insecurity is often more severe in rural Arizona due to geography, visibility and accessibility to services. For example, 19% of Coconino County residents experience homelessness and/or food insecurity which is higher than both the Arizona state average and the U.S. national average according to the Northern Arizona Food Equity Report conducted by the Flagstaff Family Food Center.

For these reasons and more, ACF provides support for its partners like Catholic Charities that work tirelessly in rural areas to help those in need.

“Catholic Charities is grateful for the support of the Arizona Community Foundation and the grant award to assist vulnerable populations in Northern Arizona,” says Sandi Flores, Senior Programs Director at Catholic Charities Community Services. “This funding will support recent funding cuts for individuals experiencing homelessness, serious mental illness, and food insecurity, while also helping to supplement rising food costs, and growing client numbers across the region.”
