Hualapai Tribe Chairman declares curfew, closes parks

PEACH SPRINGS – Hualapai Tribe Chairman Duane Clarke instituted a curfew on April 8 in Peach Springs. Juniper Park and the Basketball Court located on Oak Street will be closed from dusk until dawn.

Clarke created the curfew after visiting Juniper Park and finding empty alcohol containers scattered throughout the park, along with a bag of marijuana.

“This sight is deeply troubling,” Clarke wrote in a letter to citizens. “Our parks are meant to be safe and enjoyable spaces for our children and families to gather, play, and connect with one another. The presence of alcohol and the potential for underage drinking in these areas jeopardizes the safety and positive environment we strive to maintain for our youth.”

Community parks Milkweed Springs and Music Mountain Housing have also been closed indefinitely for repairs and upgrades. Juniper Park and the Basketball Court will remain open during the day, but will be secured by Hualapai Nation Police at night.
