Lights, camera, action! MCC student club hosts 5th annual Flash Film Festival

Mohave Community College’s student club, the Bullhead City Campus Arts Club, is hosting its 5th Annual Flash Film Festival. For submission rules and guidelines, visit Mohave.edu/film-fest.

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College’s student club, the Bullhead City Campus Arts Club, is hosting its 5th Annual Flash Film Festival. The festival is a chance for students, faculty, staff and community members to show off their artistic abilities behind the camera.

The festival encourages participants to create short films in various categories such as drama, comedy, musical, horror and more. The event is a great way for community members to showcase their films and support others’ endeavors. Submissions are due March 21.

“It’s a great event for students, especially the community, to participate in because it’s a collaborative experience,” said Joe Ketchum, arts club advisor. “You have an idea for a story, someone else has an eye for how it should be filmed, someone else creates music, a friend finds costumes and props, a few people want to act, another person wants to put it all together.”

Ketchum has created and submitted a few films in past festivals. He enjoys the process because he loves movies but is able to learn new skills and improve on them each year.

“My first film was a silent movie documentary about my dog’s hatred of our vacuum cleaner but I really enjoyed putting it together,” he said.

Participants have the chance to win the grand prize of a $500 Amazon gift card. Prizes will also be awarded to the first-place winners in each category in the form of a $50 Amazon gift card. Second-place winners will receive a $25 Amazon gift card.

For submission rules and guidelines, visit Mohave.edu/film-fest. The festival is at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 9 at the MCC Bullhead Campus, 3400 Highway 95, bldg. 600. Light refreshments provided. For more information about the festival and submissions, contact Joe Ketchum at JKetchum@mohave.edu.
