MCSO works to clean up desert litter

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Over the last month, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the Lake Havasu City area, in partnership and with funding from the Arizona State Land Department, patrolled the desert areas near Lake Havasu for trash dump and litter sites. During these patrols, deputies located six abandoned and burnt-out cars, two abandoned boats, and one personal watercraft.

All of these items were a significant distance into the desert areas and were not easily accessible by patrol vehicle. Through investigations and physical labor, Deputies located hidden VIN numbers on all of the vehicles.

It was determined that none were reported stolen. Deputies are pursuing leads with prior registered owners to bring felony littering charges against those who dumped the items. Deputies worked in coordination with state land officials, local tow companies, and volunteers to remove all of the vehicles, boats, and personal watercraft.
