Penrod gets 90 days for traffic death

KINGMAN – A young Kingman man charged in a year-old traffic fatality has begun serving a short jail sentence. Dalin Penrod, 21, was convicted Oct. 7 of the misdemeanor offense of causing death by moving violation.

Kingman police said Penrod was southbound on Stockton Hill Road last Dec. 3 when the vehicle he was operating ran a red light and struck an SUV vehicle engaged in a left-hand turn onto the thoroughfare by Starbucks, at Kino Avenue.

The driver of the second vehicle, Lacey Gale, 19, Kingman died of her injuries following transport to Kingman Regional Medical Center.

Deputy police Chief Joel Freed said investigation determined that Penrod was not impaired and had not been distracted by cell phone use at the time of the accident.

City Magistrate Jeffrey Singer ordered probation and a 90-day jail sentence. Penrod reported to the Adult Detention Center Dec. 1.
