NACFD management shifts to Kingman Fire; Kingman Crossing tabled

KINGMAN – Management of the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD) is transitioning to the management team of City of Kingman Fire Department Chief Jake Rhoades. An intergovernmental agreement detailing the arrangement was approved August 6 by the Kingman Council, following previous approval of the NACFD governing board.

Rhoades said consolidated management should improve public safety, training, resource sharing and joint response performance.

“It’s going to strengthen our service strategy in the region,” said Mayor Jen Miles. She noted that the agreement will have the Kingman Fire Department more involved in serving Kingman High School and the Kingman Airport and Industrial Park, both outside the city limits and historically served by NACFD.

“That’s music to my ears,” Vice Mayor Travis Lingenfelter said, when Chief Rhoades said the airport and industrial park should be better protected and served.

The Kingman City Council spent just more than an hour in executive session regarding Kingman Regional Medical Center’s proposed development agreement for the Kingman Crossing project. The council reconvened in public session but adjourned without discussing the topic or taking any action.

The Council also agreed to move forward with the latest Master Plan for the Sunbelt Park. The design has undergone several revisions and the latest version expands green space, mostly for youth soccer use, while eliminating one volleyball court and a basketball court.
