More than four pounds of methamphetamine and nearly six ounces of heroin was found in an SUV following a Wednesday afternoon traffic stop in Kingman. Two handguns, several cell phones, tablets, two scales and a couple of syringes were also seized, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s office.
Department spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said patrolling deputies recognized the vehicle from previous contacts. She said they also observed the passenger to be Nicholas Mitchell Markham, a 35-year-old Kingman man whom they knew to be named in an arrest warrant.
Mortensen said that the SUV also lacked a functioning brake light and that the 3:10 p.m. traffic stop was executed in the vicinity of Beale Street and Clare Avenue. She said deputies removed Markham and the driver, Jennifer Leight Hoover, 34, Kingman from the vehicle after observing a gun holster on the passenger floor board and a syringe loaded with a black substance in the passenger door pocket.
Mortensen said a subsequent search of the vehicle produced a backpack on the back seat which contained the heroin and about two pounds of meth. She said the other two pounds of meth was found in a package located on the rear floor board.
Mortensen said the phones, tablets and a revolver were reportedly found in a second backpack in the vehicle and that another handgun was discovered inside the locked glove box.
Both suspects were booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Center for an assortment of felony drug and weapons offenses.
