Valley man accepts plea deal in sex abuse case

KINGMAN – A Golden Valley man who engaged in sexual activity with his own son is going to the Arizona Department of Corrections if a local judge accepts a plea agreement entered Monday. Judge Billy Sipe deferred acceptance of the plea proposal until a September 17 hearing.

Larry Hayes, 35, had been charged with three counts of sexual conduct with a minor. The proposed case resolution dismisses one count and reduces two others to attempted sexual conduct with a minor.

Prosecutor Karolina Czaplinska told the Court that the sexual behavior occurred when the victim was under the age of 12 at a residence on North Magma Road before 2018 and that he was under the age of 15 when it happened again at another residence on Chino in 2019.

Judge Sipe must impose a 5- to 7-year prison term if he approves the plea. Hayes would also be required to register as a sex offender and serve lifetime probation upon release.

The original charges will be reinstated if the deal is rejected.
