The University of Utah congratulates 8,628 graduates in first-ever virtual commencement ceremony on April 30. The graduating class of 2020 includes students who graduated summer 2019, fall 2019 and spring 2020. Students in the Class of 2020 ranged in age from 18 to 69 and earned 9,280 degrees. Graduates represented 50 U.S. states and 59 foreign countries. This class is the first to graduate from the U since it was selected as a new member of the Association of American Universities-an invitiation-only, presitious group of 65 leading research institutions. MEC outage due to auto crash

BULLHEAD CITY – After a full day of work in summer temperatures reaching above 110 degrees, MEC crews responded to a vehicle contacting a pole incident. The call came from emergency dispatchers just after 2:30 p.m.; the vehicle erupted in fire, catching a utility pole and nearby brush on fire at the NW corner of Hwy 95 and Boundary Cone Road in Mohave Valley. For the safety of the responding fire crews MEC performed circuit switching to isolate the section of line in the incident area. Shots fired at deputies; suspects arrested

FT. MOHAVE – Authorities say they have identified and arrested two suspects who fled an attempted traffic stop Sunday in Fort Mohave after shots were fired at a Mohave County Sheriff’s deputy. Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said gunfire erupted when the deputy tried to pull over a silver Toyota Rav4 just before noon in the vicinity of S. Calle Ranchita and E. Camino Viejo. COVID-19 update: 886 cases in Mohave County; 76 deaths total

MOHAVE COUNTY – Late Wednesday afternoon, the Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff was notified of 38 new COVID-19 confirmed cases. Twenty five of the new cases are in the Bullhead City service area; ten cases are in the Lake Havasu City service area; two are in the Kingman Service area; one is in the North County area. There is also one death, an 80-89 year age range person in the Bullhead City area. Of the 25 Bullhead City area cases, 14 cases are under investigation. KRMC renames Cancer Center to honor Kingman businessman

In recognition of a generous donation from a former Kingman resident and business owner, Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) has renamed its Cancer Center. It is now called the W L Nugent Cancer Center, named for William (Bill) Nugent. Bill Nugent has donated accrued equity in a 60,000 sq. ft. building and associated land at 2110 Airway Avenue to Kingman Regional Medical Center.
