Concerns voiced regarding ambiguous development plans
KINGMAN – The Kingman Planning and Zoning Commission tabled a rezoning request during its March 10 meeting. The matter involved two properties being rezoned from rural residential to the C-3 commercial designation.
The near one-acre and near two-acre parcels are both located in the vicinity of North Bank Street and Gordon Drive. Commission members Charmayne Keith and Scott McCoy expressed concern that a specific development has not been identified for the larger parcel.
On behalf of his father property owner Michael Seitz, Gregory Seitz told Commissioners they are leaning toward an affordable housing project but remain uncertain given current economic instability.
“We’re still not sure so our intent was to get the highest zoning that we can so that we have the greatest opportunity for development, whatever would be best at the time, according to what the economy is doing,” Seitz said.
Keith noted that she would oppose vehicle storage and towing enterprises and other permitted uses allowed under C-3 if the parcel owner is not committed to a specific project.
“Not knowing what the proposal is, I’m not willing to support it,” McCoy agreed.
The Commission voted to table the matter until the owner could better answer development questions.
Good job on the part of the commissioner’s- Without a specific plan, just blindly resining isn’t a good idea for the community- besides c-3 is commercial, the owners of building affordable housing would be looking for multi family zoning – so right there is a red flag
