Woman, four-year-old daughter rescued from sex trafficking

KINGMAN – Authorities have released the name of the man arrested May 14 after a woman contacted law enforcement to report that she was being sex trafficked, along with her four-year-old daughter. The Arizona Department of Public Safety one week later identified Marcelis Carty as the suspect who was taken into custody at the Love’s gas station off Interstate 40 several miles east of Kingman.

DPS said emergency texting informed troopers of the allegations and the location of the woman and child. Agency spokesman Bart Graves said the victims were placed at a women’s shelter.

Carty, 24, Covington, Washington, is held on $200,000 bond at the Adult Detention Facility in Kingman. He had an initial appearance on prostitution and pandering related counts, and a driving while under the influence charge, and awaits further legal proceedings.

Authorities have not yet provided any account of any association between Carty and the alleged victims. Details of any alleged sex trafficking history have not been publicly disclosed.
