Two magic words, part 2

Dear Editor,

My mother’s family was from Germany and stories I was told is all too similar with what I’m seeing today. They, too, were told those ‘two magic words,’ it was for “national security” reasons.

All the hate rhetoric and divisiveness and invading countries and deporting and forcing people into internment camps and neighborhood raids was all for ‘the cause’ (like Project 2025 is today).

And the cause and effects of it they didn’t want filmed or documented (as we see today ICE pushing and attacking the press and grabbing phones out of the hands of bystanders). And like now, then too, some were all on board with it and others cowed down to it while there were those who filmed and documented and stood up for their friends and neighbors and tried to protect them and some lost their lives for it. And it all happened under the false pretense of national security.

And thought there were those who could see it for what it really was and others couldn’t but they all lived in fear and unrest all for the sake of it. Struggled with daily living going without necessities all to fund a military might that caused chaos and mayhem and death all for a sham of a cause to feed one man’s narcissistic ego and his regime of yes-men.

It was then and as it is now. We’re living and seeing how it all began. Whether you take the bait –  hook, line and sinker or not, either way, it cost billions in dollars and lives lost when fighting with countries and with your own people. Whatever is happening today it doesn’t feel good and it doesn’t feel right, and it feels all too familiar for some.

And the number is growing with others who feel the same. Tired of the chaos and cruelty and feeling the effects of what this administration is doing to us and our country. Tired of seeing people dragged out of their cars and their homes and lives and the hypocrisy of Trump threatening Iran’s leader if they kill protesters while ICE takes the lives of ours. Or dubious national security reasons to seize another country’s natural resources, or saying tariffs are for our national security when all they bare are taxes on us.

Or saying ‘affordability is a made-up word.” (!?!) And, “the state of our economy is doing great” while the only fumes it’s running on is maxing out credit cards. Like Brian Walter testified in his op letter courageously explaining what is happening to him and his health insurance is happening to millions.

The cracks are beginning to show. This regimes smoke and mirrors with this same-old, same-old using national security for every excuse they can come up with. Its ‘magic’ is wearing off. Their claim for enacting a national security for this and that is to prevent a national security is just bogus and insane and no different than Putin with Ukraine and Chine with Taiwan.

And our president is setting a bad precedent We know it and other countries know it.

As too, the crimes being committed on those in the U.S. This administration’s national securities have been so overblown and out of control here and there and everywhere to the point when we hear those ‘two magic words’ it doesn’t mean anything anymore.  You don’t have to be a historian or have a degree in political science to know Trump is hurting us here and on the world stage.

Like everything else that’s been coming out of this White House and, for but a few the Republican Party who owns all three seats in our government aren’t doing a thing about it. Not addressing what the Real ‘national security’ is to our country today.

Our economy, our healthcare and the general well-being of our national as a whole.

J.M.
