Dear Editor,
It would seem some individuals think those of us who possess differing opinions are ignorant, and then go on to write letters which reveal just the opposite. A writer (Sept. 2 edition of The Standard) accuses some of us of using the Constitution to destroy America, purportedly by advocating some support for social programs. (I have to assume the writer of the letter in question sent her $1,200 stimulus check back, and thinks Social Security is an idea cooked up by a bunch of conservatives.)
Since the First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech, even if the content of such speech is not true, as illustrated (over and over) by our current leader, there are consequences attached to such fabrications. So, please explain how our Constitution is used to destroy America?
Subsequently, we are admonished to not let President Trump be your excuse to destroy America. One might infer from the text, the writer does not know how badly bungled this COVID-19 fiasco has been. Had we elected a competent leader who had intervened appropriately at the onset, maybe 180,000-plus American families would not be facing funerals for family members. Instead we received platitude and lies; it’ll be gone in a few days, or drink/inject Clorox or Lysol, what we need is less testing, hydroxychloroquine is the cure (never mind I might have invested in the manufacturer’s futures, wink! Wink!). Note how he cleaned up the swamp, and how he diverts money from defense programs to build a wall Mexico was going to finance. Nope, Trump is doing a bang up job of ruining America all by himself, with the complicity of the “best People” he has installed in positions of authority. (Those not yet under indictment, anyway.)
Finally, I thought China was a communist country, however for socialistic countries; don’t just look at Venezuela, or Cuba. Visit Finland, Canada, Denmark, Netherlands, or Sweden. Mark Twain said it succinctly in his own inimitable way, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, to bigotry and narrow-mindedness and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.” When COVID-19 is over, conquered, defeated, and it is safe, travel. Differences of opinions are perfectly valid. You do not, however, have to agree.

You sir are exactly right!!!!! It’s a real shame the GOP in Congress aren’t brave enough to stand up to the president. Their position and money are more important to them than country.
It is a shame that you think this way. I think through time, it was people like you, who have destroyed America by voting for people like Biden and Harris. I would truly like to see both your faces when you won’t have an opinion anymore and you give up your money to support them. Maybe its time for you to move. Its just an opinion.
