Thompson receives five years under plea

Brianna Thompson

Her attorney told the Court that Brianna Thompson of Lake Havasu City will use her time behind bars to work on her sobriety and build a platform for a drug free future. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle told Thompson, 26, she’ll need to continue that commitment once she gains her release from the Arizona Department of Corrections.

The five year prison term Carlisle imposed June 18 was mandated in a plea agreement convicting her of several felony offenses while a multitude of other charges are dismissed.

Thompson was convicted of possession of narcotic drugs for sale related to a July, 2017 traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of almost 12 grams of black tar heroin. She also pleaded guilty to possession for sale of three grams of methamphetamine and taking the identity of another for the various social security cards and numbers and other forms of identification and property ownership found in the vehicle.

Thompson also pleaded guilty to possession of dangerous drugs for the more than 5 grams of meth found in her pants pocket during a March 31, 2018 encounter with officers in Lake Havasu.

Thompson reportedly told an arresting officer that she had been using drugs since the age of 17. Thompson was ordered to serve four years probation and perform 360 hours of community work service once she is released from prison.
