Dear Editor,
With the Taliban now as the Afghan government, it is very possible they will revert in culture back to the 4th century, but with 20th century weapons. If this happens, they will apply a severe interpretation of Islam and the Qur’an. With the Taliban, Islam’s Sharia Law will be strictly followed in a most conservative, militant view.
Sharia Law regulates public behavior, private behavior, and even private beliefs. Sharia Law also favors corporal punishment and capital punishment over incarceration. The Taliban will likely be the most intrusive and restrictive government, especially against women. Women will go back to wearing the burqa, covering their head and face.
People here, in the U.S. under 30, probably have no idea what faces the people in Afghanistan and who the Taliban really are. When you do not pay attention and be involved, this is what can happen in any government as the leader’s power is paramount. It may be that Russia and China will try to play a part in support of the Taliban for their own advantage. The Taliban will likely double the production of opium as it is a cash crop, money that they will need.
Prepare for more distribution of this opium. If any type of action against the Taliban is required, it will need to be swift and powerful, as that action is what they will understand.

While this is true, rare earth minerals are the name of the game. More important now than ever. Funny that no one points out that drugs are banned by Sharia law yet poppies are grown for that reason. While it would be nice if Afghanistan was a democracy, we didn’t make it happen in 20 years time.
