LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – A Lake Havasu City teenager who recently graduated from high school is going to the Arizona Department of Corrections. A plea agreement was entered July 23 for Matthew Brown, 18.

Brown is convicted of theft of means of transportation for stealing a Volkswagen in the 700 block of Thunderbolt Avenue, before embarking on a joy ride that ended in a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of State Route 95 and South Acoma Boulevard. Police said Brown and his passenger exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot.

A person in one of the other vehicles reportedly suffered a concussion.

Brown also pleaded guilty to unlawful use of means of transportation for taking his mother’s vehicle without her permission on June 2.

Terms of the deal require the court to impose a 3.5-year prison term. Sentencing is scheduled Aug. 24.
