Gold Star ceremony honored fallen military heroes

LAKE HAVASU CITY – It was an especially moving evening for the military moms of Lake Havasu recently as the community honored the mothers of veterans who lost their children while serving this country.

The ceremony took place on Sunday, Sept. 29 at Wheeler Park. Gold Star Mothers Incorporated was created to keep the legacy alive of the fallen children who dedicated their time and service in the military.  

The last day Sunday in September is when the mothers who have lost sons and daughters honor their children with a candlelight ceremony in remembrance of their bravery.

DV Awareness Walk set in Havasu

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Havasu Abuse Victims Education Network (HAVEN) Center will be bringing recognition for crisis victims with their 11th Annual “Save a Life” Domestic Violence Awareness Walk. HAVEN Provides services to victims and families in crisis at no cost. The organization works alongside various other like-minded organizations such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline, The Arizona Child and Family, Advocacy Network, Lake Havasu City, a many more charitable groups that give assistance to victims of abuse.

5K run for Pregnancy Infant Loss Remembrance Day

LAKE HAVASU CITY – According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stillbirths occur in about one to 175 five births a year. Their studies also show 21,000 babies a year are stillborn in the United States.  

This is the same amount according to the national public health agency, of babies that pass away within their first year. Lake Havasu married couple Tamara and Dennis Weaver, are amongst the millions of expecting parents who have suffered this loss.

WACOG hosts play day for seniors

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG), hosted a Reach Out and Play event last week with the seniors of our community. WACOG is a charitable organization dedicated to empowering communities through their various programs. Reach Out and Play day took place on Wednesday. Sept. 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church’s Memory Cafe.

WACOG’s programs provide assistance for children, healthcare, housing support, and senior outreach.

Cambell Regatta Boat Club celebrated 52nd anniversary

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Last week, the Campbell Regatta Boat Club celebrated the legacy of a gone, but not exactly forgotten historic gatherings of boat lovers. The club’s annual 52nd anniversary celebration took place on Friday, September 20 at Shugrue’s Bridgeview Room.  

Campbell Boats was founded by Bob and Billy Campbell of Burbank, CA. The company built fiberglass wood boats in the 17- to 40-foot range. In 1970, the company was moved to Lake Havasu City and was sold to Bob and Judy Whelan.

Havasu clean up day slated

LAKE HAVASU CITY – It’s that time of year again when Lake Havasu’s summer ends and the Havasu Riviera Marine Association will sail in for their end of summer cleanup day. The Lake Havasu Marine Association (LHMA) is a nonprofit group that has a close relationship with stakeholders to support their ongoing efforts to conserve the environment.  

The riviera team needs personal watercraft, boater, and kayak enthusiasts to attend but, you don’t have to own a boat to participate.
