Quinones takes plea in crash through dance studio

KINGMAN – The Fort Mohave woman whose vehicle struck a building housing a dance studio last year entered a plea agreement in Kingman Tuesday. Maria Lourdes Rolon Quinones pleaded guilty to criminal damage and driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol charges.

The Dream Big & Grow Dance Studio and its students were displaced when the Mercedes sport-utility vehicle operated by Rolon Quinones, 60, crashed into Unit 102 at the Palms Business Plaza, 4140 Lynn Drive, in Fort Mohave at 2:41 a.m. last Dec. 12.

Kingman baseball prodigy wins playoff

KINGMAN – Kingman baseball prodigy Tarik Skubal shined bright and earned the win in his first major league baseball playoff appearance Tuesday. The 27-year-old starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers tossed six scoreless innings, giving up just four hits and one walk while striking out six Astros in Houston.

Skubal, the heavy favorite to win the Cy Young award as the American League’s most outstanding pitcher, dazzled and dominated and positioned himself for a possible shutout before Houston scored off the bullpen in the ninth inning.

Teen faces up to five years in prison

KINGMAN – A Golden Valley teenager charged in a vehicular pedestrian fatality faces probation up to five years in prison after entering a plea agreement Friday, Sept. 27. Dehaven William Shafer, 19, admits operating a vehicle that struck and killed a man in Golden Valley at about 7:41 p.m. on Jan. 2.

Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responding to the scene located the victim in the roadway in the vicinity of Chino Drive and Adobe Road in Golden Valley. James Douglass McDaniel, 69, Golden Valley, was dead at the scene.

Parents arrested for endangerment

BULLHEAD CITY – Parents high on drugs were arrested when discovered asleep in a vehicle with their young children in Bullhead City. Police spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said officers responded to a to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at a business in the 2300 block of Miracle Mile at 10:40 p.m. on Sept. 26.

“The adults in the vehicle were unresponsive due to being under the influence of drugs,” Fromelt said. “Officers had to yell and bang on the vehicle windows to wake up the parents.”

Fromelt said three children (ages three, six and six years old) were sleeping in the back seat.

Airstream village underway in downtown Kingman

KINGMAN – The first future dwelling units have begun arriving for the “Tin Can Alley” community of vintage Airstream camper trailers being developed for short term visitor stays along Historic Route 66 in downtown Kingman.

Walk-up coffee and ice cream shops called “Mud” and “Scoops” are open and operating in the space between Second and Third Sts. Site preparation and staking has occurred before the Airstream units are placed on the property.
