Swimmer drowns at Lake Havasu

LAKE HAVASU – A suspected drowning at Lake Havasu is under investigation by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). Boating Safety Division personnel responded at about 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10 to the area near The Islander RV Park.

Authorities learned that a woman disappeared after jumping from a boat for a swim.

“When she entered the water, her improperly secured life jacket came off,” said MCSO public information specialist Anita Mortensen. “The victim began to panic, then went below the surface of the water.”

Rescue divers deployed in the area were unable to locate the victim. A Careflight helicopter provided aerial search assistance.

“Further into the search, side scan sonar technology and divers were used,” Mortensen said. “The victim was located in 59-degree water at a depth of 42 feet.”

The victim was positively identified as Cynthia Marin, 49 of La Mesa, California.
