Sheriff reopens Havasu cold case, seeks public’s assistance

LAKE HAVASU CITY — Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an unknown cold case victim.

On October 7, 2000, boaters found the severely decomposed body of a male subject near Lake Havau City in a cove approximately 3 miles north of Sandy Point Marina. The victim was estimated to be between 20-40 years old and is described as a white male, 5 ft 10in., with a mustache and brown hair.

At the time of discovery, the victim was wearing blue jeans, Reebok tennis shoes, and a t-shirt with the “Hot Boat Magazine” logo printed across the back. He was also wearing a Casio calculator watch, carrying a utility knife, and a small flashlight inscribed with the letters “JKP”. It is estimated that the victim had been deceased for approximately one month before being discovered.

A sketch of the victim was completed in January 2001 by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office and issued to the public with no success. Our SIU team is hoping to identify the victim and revitalize the investigation. Anyone with information useful to this investigation is encouraged to contact our Special Investigation Unit at 928-753-0753 ext. 4408 and reference DR# 00-026283.
