Search & Rescue seeks volunteers

MOHAVE COUNTY – When plans do not necessarily go as expected in the wilderness, our search and rescue teams are often called to help those in need. An injured hunter, a lost hiker, a missing child, a stranded backcountry motorists, or overdue campers – these are some of the calls for help our teams encounter throughout the year. Our search and rescue team forms the backbone of many rescues in Mohave County. Becoming a search and rescue volunteer can add new meaning and purpose to your favorite outdoor activities.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Units throughout the county are recruiting volunteers for search and rescue. We are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to be available to respond to a variety of missions – such as locating those who are lost, rescuing those who may have become injured, technical rescues and recoveries, evidentiary searches, and community outreach programs. All volunteers with Search and Rescue need to be associated with one of our four regional Units (Bullhead City, Kingman, Lake Havasu City or the Arizona Strip).

Each of the Units have a process to join and begin with attending their monthly meetings. Each searcher has a set of required training that must be completed within the first year during a probationary period. Additional training opportunities are available throughout the year that includes the art of tracking; search tactics, land navigation, technical rope rescues, swift water rescues, wilderness survival, and helicopter operations.
