KINGMAN — The Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club Foundation is hosting its annual Festival of the Arts at Metcalfe Park in downtown Kingman beginning on Saturday, May 10. This event will feature artwork from local artist, and for the first time, it will also be introducing a Marketplace where visitors can shop and purchase artwork.
Local artists will present many different creations, including paintings, ceramics, photography, and jewelry. This event is free and open to the public, and it will feature food, beer, mimosas, and live music.
The Festival of the Arts is the first of two major fundraisers organized by the Rotary Club throughout the year—the other is Oktoberfest, held on the first Friday in October. Proceeds for these events go toward local and international Rotary Club service projects.
For example, the club presents dictionaries annually to third grade students throughout the Kingman Unified School District and it awards micro grants to area teachers. Rotary Readers is another program in which a Rotary member spends a half hour weekly with a third grade student who needs improvement in reading skills.
Other philanthropic activities include annual scholarships, city youth basketball, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Interact, Peace Builder Club, Shelter Box and Open World. The Route 66 Rotary Club has also adopted Metcalfe Park and conducted a cleanup of the park in advance of the festival.
