Response to Basil Monroe’s Sept. 29 letter

Dear Editor,

After reading Basil Monroe’s letter in the Sept. 29 edition of The Standard titled “This sinful generation pt. 1,” what is abundantly apparent to me is this discussion should be reserved for a church setting.

When we consider the numerous flaws in religious dogma, what becomes clearly evident is sin started a long time ago. With the creation of Adam and Eve (who was created from Adam’s rib), the desire to procreate would require an incestuous relationship. Then advance to Noah’s Ark, the 600 ft. ship which supposedly held two of every species on earth for 40 days. Since it contained Noah and his sons and their families, more incest would have occurred in order to populate this orb we call home.

Today, we have the Catholic church embroiled in priests abusing the faithful, causing untold suffering and costing the church millions of dollars to settle these cases, not to mention the attempts to cover up the incidents. Lately, there are ads on television for those abused by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to sign up with lawyers to seek settlements with the church.

We have also seen evangelicals fall from grace only to be back on television begging for money. Jim Baker, adulterer and millionaire, spent time in prison and is now back on TV asking for money. There is Jimmy Swaggert, a millionaire caught with a prostitute, back on TV asking for money. Charles Stanley, a millionaire asking for money. Then Joel Osteen worth $50 million also asking for money. So, it appears a lot of the money donated goes into the pockets of these men of God. How else do you account for their wealth?

No, siree Bob. Clean up the churches before preaching to the choir.
