Rap artist death probe brings local arrest

An ongoing federal investigation has led to the arrest of a Lake Havasu City man. Ryan Reavis, 36, was arrested Monday following execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of Barcelona Loop.

Lake Havasu police detective Chris Angus said a physician’s prescription pad, prescription-only pills, a usable amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was located. Officers also confiscated a 9mm pistol, two shotguns, a personally manufactured firearm suppressor and large amounts of ammunition.

“The investigation, led by the DEA, is an active case involving the death of music artist Malcolm McCormick, also known as Mac Miller,” Angus said in a news release. He said he was unable to provide any details regarding McCormick’s overdose related death in the Los Angeles area last year.

Numerous news media outlets report the rap music recording artist was pronounced dead at the scene after he was found in an unresponsive condition in his Studio City home in September, 2018.

Reavis was initially charged with fraudulent schemes and artifices, possession of marijuana, possession of prescription drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, weapons misconduct by a prohibited possessor and manufacture of a prohibited weapon.
