Public safety concern stems from proposed state budget cut

KINGMAN – Kingman City Manager Ron Foggin has expressed concern over potential dire consequences of the $1.5 billion income tax cut he said Governor Doug Ducey has proposed in the state budget.

“Doesn’t that sound wonderful (sic)?,” Foggin rhetorically asked city council members during their April 6 meeting. “I will suggest that it is not wonderful.”

Foggin said the trickle-down effect would be a loss of $1.2 million for Kingman’s general fund in the next budget year. He said police and fire funding is in play here.

“70% of general fund money is made up of public safety,” Foggin said. “The state legislature is basically defunding public safety with this effort.”

Foggin urged council members to express their concerns to local lawmakers and any other state legislators they wish.
