Pierce Ferry Road to get traffic warning signs

MOHAVE COUNTY – New District 4 Mohave County Supervisor Don Martin says traffic conditions along Pierce Ferry Road through the community of Dolan Springs north of Kingman are shockingly hazardous. He said that much was glaringly evident during a recent visit.

“I stood there for about 20 minutes and I’m telling you, that is dangerous. I think it’s mostly the tourists even though I did see some local people there that just drove like it’s a freeway,” Martin said during the Jan. 6 Board of Supervisors meeting in Kingman. “You couldn’t go across there. You literally take your life in your hands just walking from the VFW across the street.”

The Board approved Public Works Director Steve Latoski’s proposal to designate the 29 mile stretch of Pierce Ferry Road from U.S. 93 to Diamond Bar Road as a safety corridor “to heighten motorist awareness of posted speed limits and road conditions.”

“This is a great project. This is something that I’m really pleased to see that Mr. Latoski and the county has already started,” Martin said.

Latoski said his department will produce and post warning signs, measuring four by seven feet, on both ends of the corridor.

Martin called the warning signs a great first step. He said he also hopes to speak with Sheriff Doug Schuster about improving traffic enforcement.

“I cannot believe what they have going on out there as far as traffic. Whether it’s tourists that have rented a car in Las Vegas, they have no concept about traffic laws in America,” Martin said. “When you drive through town, you’re either going to see a few pedestrians or a herd of cattle walking across the road and when they’re going 50-55 miles an hour through there, that’s not safe for anybody.”
