Oleanders are a threat

Dear Editor,

Oleanders! Why are they here and being sold at all nurseries? They are 100 percent poisonous and all levels of government and agriculture have known this fact for decades. These days they say nothing and don’t warn the public of the dangers of this plant.

When we lived in Phoenix in the ‘80s, there were always news stories of people of all ages suffering from the poisonous properties of this plant (from the roots to the tips). From rashes, blindness, blood poisoning, and death!

Why are you promoting this plant? You should be ashamed and fined for promoting this monster on the ignorant public!

  1. I thought most everybody knew oleanders were poisonous, When we were kids we knew. They are one of the few plants that you can have a hedge and the critters won’t eat. I would not have livestock around them but in 66 years I don’t remember ever hearing about a human suffering. Stop looking for another bogeyman… we have enough.
