Northern Avenue complete street project beings this month

KINGMAN – Northern Avenue is ready for a complete street makeover for the safety and mobility of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicle traffic, bisecting the central business district of North Kingman/Butler.

This three-month construction project commences later this month, (January.) Public Works Director Steve Latoski reports the project “will deliver significant improvements while maintaining existing traffic lanes to meet ongoing community growth.”

The improvements include:

·  Continuous sidewalks on both sides of Northern Avenue between Stockton Hill Road and Bank Street (1.5 miles) and continuous sidewalk on the north side of Northern Avenue between Bank Street and Castle Rock Road (1 mile).

  • Continuous bike lanes between Stockton Hill Road and Castle Rock Road (2.5 miles).
  • High visibility crosswalks at Stardust Road and Benton Street.
  • Traffic signal upgrades at Northern Avenue at Bank Street.

Mohave County, through Latoski’s Public Works Department, secured $5.19 million in Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program and Transportation Alternatives Program funds for design and construction of the Northern Avenue Complete Street Project.  The federal funding pairs with approximately $1.64 million County contribution (24 percent) through its Highway User Revenue Fund monies.
