Nonprofit fashion show will help community healthcare needs

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Don’t Be Greedy nonprofit is making strides to improve healthcare options for the locals of Lake Havasu. Small towns can often be a refreshing change from larger bustling urban cities. However, what many may not realize is that the exchange for a slower paced low-key environment can sometimes mean a decrease of certain big city amenities such as a lack of transit systems, fewer career opportunities, and even less health care benefits.

Don’t Be Greedy was founded by Heidi Greedy. Last year the director of the nonprofit witnessed her husband Shane’s struggle with colon cancer. The couple made several trips to California to ensure that Shane was able to undergo his needed chemo treatments, something that is not provided in Lake Havasu.

During Shane’s hospital stay, he shared with Heidi that they were very blessed to have a home in California to go to maintain his therapy and stay close to Heidi. Shane asked his wife to donate his travel points from his credit card company to a family in their same situation who did not have the finances needed for healthcare commutes. Shortly after Heidi fulfilled her husband’s wish, Shane passed away in August of 2023.

With the help of family and friends, Greedy began to carry out her husband’s request on a bigger scale and began helping Havasu families. The Don’t Be Greedy nonprofit made their launch in November of that same year. Just this past February is when the organization hosted their very first fundraiser.  With their poker run that took place at Bunker Bar, the nonprofit raised more than $19,000.

This summer, they plan on raising more funds to help people get the healthcare they need outside of Lake Havasu. Their Don’t Be Greedy Fashion Show and Charity Gala will feature fashions by Define Boutique as well as cash and carry vendors, 50/50 raffle, and a silent auction. All attendees must be 21 or older to attend and this will be an elegant occasion for formal attire, cash bar, music, and dancing.

General admission is $100 per person which includes complimentary appetizers and desserts. VIP tickets are now available at $150 a person and includes reserved seats, runway, swag bag, and a complimentary glass of champagne along with appetizers and desserts.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting dontbegreedynonprofit.com or by calling 928-490-1914. The Fashion Show and Charity Gala will take place on Friday, July 12 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at the London Bridge Resort Convention Center. All proceeds will benefit financial grants for out-of-town medical commuting to ensure that people can be near their loved ones during health challenges.
