LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Cancer Care Resource launched their first New Beginnings Fashion Show fundraiser of the year last week. The cancer awareness nonprofit’s fashion show took place on Wednesday, November 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the London Bridge Convention Center.
Formally affiliated with the Havasu Community Health Foundation, Cancer Care Resource now operates under the Heidi Edwards Cooking for Cancer Foundation. The Cooking for Cancer foundation was founded by Edwards, a cancer patient who came up with the unique idea to start a cancer nonprofit using cuisine themed fundraisers.
The Heidi Edwards Cooking for Cancer Foundation has previously worked with high end chefs from Shugrues, Lake Havasu Golf Club, and several others at previous charitable events. In the year 2010, Edwards lost her battle with the disease. Keeping her daughter’s memory and dream of helping other patients alive, her mother Lisa Turner, is now the president of the organization.
The new Cancer Care Resource nonprofit is a support team for cancer patients and survivors. They learn other people’s stories, find strength, and build camaraderie. They also are the organization behind the free mammogram screenings that take place every first Friday of the month at Michael Alan Furniture store.
The New Beginnings Fashion Show was a hit success in Lake Havasu. The event occurring the middle of the week didn’t stop attendees showing up decked out in glamorous attire in support of Cancer Care Resource. With doors opening at 6 p.m., guests had a chance to enjoy beverages at the cash bar, live music provided by DJ Danny Finch, raffle drawings, delicious appetizers, and desserts. Eleven local stylish boutiques provided clothing for the runway show.
Clothing and accessory stores such as Denims and Diamonds, RU Gallery and Boutique, Bling, were elegantly shown off onstage for the audiences. The jam packed celebration included well known community leaders and trailblazers such as the President of nonprofit I Love Lake Havasu Shawn Lawless, Riverscene Magazine, and Mayor Cal Sheehy.
Cancer Care Resource received a check for their Pink Rugged Radio in the amount of $32,000. With the overall theme of the show being New Beginnings, Cancer Care Resource is eager to be the old crew starting anew and make a big difference in the lives that need it.
